Governor Polis Signs Bills into Law

PINE - Today, Governor Polis signed bills into law at Staunton State Park to support local governments and Colorado’s world-class state parks system and wildlife.

“Colorado's hunting and angling community are great stewardship partners of our state’s iconic wildlife, and I was proud to sign this legislation at Staunton State Park to protect wildlife from contaminants like lead,” said Gov. Polis. “This legislation  takes an important step to encourage nontoxic ammunition, helping to protect the health and safety of Colorado’s wildlife.”

This morning at Staunton State Park, Governor Polis signed into law HB23-1036 Nontoxic Bullet Replacement Hunting Program sponsored by Representative Barbara McLachlan, Senator Lisa Cutter. This voluntary program will help address the broad sweeping impacts of lead contamination in Colorado’s wildlife. Lead from bullets has been found to stay within ecosystems and spread throughout wildlife and has meaningful impacts on the health of a number of species.   

Governor Polis also signed into law the bipartisan  HB23-1194 Closed Landfills Remediation Local Governments Grants sponsored by Representatives Barbara McLachlan and Rose Pugliese, Senators Cleave Simpson and Joann Ginal, and  SB23-059 State Parks And Wildlife Area Local Access Funding sponsored by Senators Mark Baisley and Dylan Roberts, Representatives Marc Catlin and Barbara McLachlan to study potential impacts to county infrastructure from the growth in popularity of outdoor recreation.
