Event to Follow Featuring 66th Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, NATO's 16th Supreme Allied Commander James Stavridis, and National Security Expert Peter Bergen to Address Current Threats to U.S. Security

DENVER – Governor Jared Polis and Mayor Mike Johnston, in partnership with The Denver Post and the Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (CELL), will host Colorado Remembers 9/11 to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 and educate the public on the most pressing issues impacting U.S. security and foreign policy. The event will take place on Monday, September 11, 2023 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House beginning at 6 PM.

Colorado Remembers 9/11 will pay respect to lives lost in the global war against terrorism and honor our first responders and service men and women with a special remembrance ceremony hosted by Governor Polis and Mayor Johnston. Following the commemoration, an educational forum entitled Threats to U.S. Security: Russia, China, Iran, and Beyond will feature 66th Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former NATO Commander James Stavridis, and National Security Advisor Peter Bergen.

“This meaningful tribute allows us to reflect upon the lives lost and the resilience shown by our nation in the face of adversity,” said Gov. Polis. “Our nation continues to face ever-evolving threats, and this important event brings together timely perspectives on how we can work together to address and respond to critical national and global security issues.”

“I’m honored to join the Coloradans from across the state who gather to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 innocent lives that were tragically cut short on September 11, 2001. Their memories remain etched in our hearts, and we stand united in honoring their legacy,” said Mayor Johnston.

Event is expected to sell out; advanced tickets are recommended. Visit TheCELL.org for more information.

Following the commemoration, the CELL will launch the grand reopening of its state-of-the-art exhibit in February 2024. The CELL Exhibit compellingly investigates the impacts of terrorism and violent extremism, examines how hatred can lead to violent acts, and empowers individuals to take an active role in community safety.
