Governor Polis and CDOT Announce the Reopening of Both Lanes of I-25 Outside of Pueblo

PUEBLO - Today, Governor Polis and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) released a statement following the reopening of the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 25 outside of Pueblo. The lanes were initially closed Sunday afternoon due to damage from a train derailment. 

“We are thrilled to announce the reopening of both southbound and northbound lanes of I-25 outside of Pueblo, and I want to thank the state workers and crews who have been working to make this happen. Our top priority was repairing the damage to I-25 as safely and quickly as possible to decrease traffic, keep people safe, and limit the closure's impact on Coloradans and our economy,” said Governor Polis. 

There will be ongoing repair projects in this area, and the state reminds motorists to check for reduced speed limits and drive safely.

Yesterday, Governor Polis visited the site and was joined by National Transportation Safety Board officials, state legislators, Pueblo Mayor Nick Gradisar, and local officials to discuss the incident and ongoing repair efforts. The Governor expressed his condolences to the family of Lafollette Henderson, who died in this incident.

“CDOT crews have been on the scene since the immediate aftermath of this derailment and crash, and they have been working around the clock since then to get I-25 back open. We ask everyone to watch their speeds in this area as we restore our normal travel routines, and we thank everyone for their patience,” said CDOT Executive Director Shoshana Lew.
