DENVER — Today, Governor Polis met with United States Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall III to reiterate why Colorado is the best place for the Space Command. The Polis-Primavera Administration has continued to strongly advocate to keep U.S. Space Command in Colorado, where it continues to execute its mission.
“As the epicenter of national security space, Colorado supports vital missions in the space domain. I was proud to discuss the importance of this critical mission with Secretary Kendall today, as we continue to urge the federal government to restore transparency and integrity to the process. Relocating U.S. Space Command would cost significant taxpayer dollars and threaten our national security during this critical moment,” said Gov. Polis.
Last February, Governor Jared Polis, along with Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera, Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers, and a group of bipartisan state legislators wrote a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, urging Secretary Austin to pause the U.S. Space Command’s move from Colorado Springs, Colo. to Huntsville, Ala.
Colorado is home to a robust and collaborative aerospace ecosystem, including military installations and major commands, private aerospace companies, academic and research institutions, and public entities. Colorado’s aerospace economy has grown over 30% statewide in the past five years, which is 12% above the national average.
