Colorado’s exports to Mexico grew by over 80% in the past decade
DENVER - Today, Governor Polis will address the Biennial of the Americas summit in Mexico City, Mexico to highlight and strengthen Colorado’s trade partnership with Mexico which contributes to good-paying Colorado jobs and supports Colorado’s agriculture, meat, aluminum, iron, steel, and industrial machinery industries.
“The world is learning what we already know in Colorado - our world-class agriculture and tourism industries are among the fastest growing in the country, Colorado exports are increasing, and international companies are flocking to Colorado bringing good-paying jobs for Coloradans across our state. Just as Colorado is moving forward with strong economic growth, the partnership between Colorado and Mexico is turning a new page and will continue to grow,” said Governor Polis.
Under the Polis Administration, Colorado is one of the best places to live, work and run or start a business, with Mexican businesses planting roots in Colorado and creating more than 1,200 good-paying jobs across the state. Mexico is the second largest importer of Colorado goods.
The economic connections between Colorado and Mexico are strong, including vibrant startup scenes and highly educated workforces. During the Biennial, Gov. Polis will meet with several Mexican businesses investing in Colorado, work to expand markets in Mexico for made in Colorado and grown in Colorado products, and focus on the strong relationship between Colorado and Mexico, strengthening that connection and learning from Colorado’s counterparts in Mexico. Colorado Department of Agriculture Commissioner Kate Greenberg is also a member of the delegation and will focus on enhancing the state’s agricultural economic connections with Mexico.
U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, who the Governor will meet with, previously served as U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Colorado’s U.S. Senator, and Attorney General of Colorado.
Lt. Governor Primavera will serve as acting Governor until Gov. Polis returns from working to strengthen Colorado’s economic ties with Mexico later this week. More about the Biennial of Americas.
