DENVER - Gov. Polis today announced Brigadier General Laura Clellan as Colorado’s new Adjutant General and Executive Director of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Clellan replaces General Michael Loh, who was appointed to lead the Air National Guard.
“We are thrilled to have Brigadier General Laura Clellan serving in this position,” said Governor Jared Polis. “Her incredible experience and lifelong dedication to service makes her just the right person to lead the Colorado National Guard and our Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The Colorado National Guard has played a critical role in supporting our state’s response to COVID-19, and I know that Laura is prepared to hit the ground running on the COVID response and in making Colorado the best state for veterans to live.”
“I am deeply honored to serve as the TAG in a time when our state and nation need us more than ever. I look forward to the opportunity to build on what General Loh has accomplished and I am committed to ensuring we build an inclusive culture that is always ready and always there for the communities we serve," Clellan said.
Clellan has more than 26 years of leadership and management experience in the federal and state government and the U.S. Army. She most recently served in the Colorado Army National Guard as the Commanding General, and prior to that as the Land Component Commander. Clellan also served as the 193rd Military Police Battalion Commander for the Colorado Army National Guard in Colorado and at the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan from 2007 to 2011.
In addition, she previously worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and Department of Veterans Affairs. Clellan began her career as a Platoon Leader with the Military Police in Ft. Bliss, Texas and then became a middle school science teacher before becoming a Military Police company commander in the Colorado National Guard.
