Gov. Polis appoints El Paso County Court Judge

DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis today announced the appointment of Samorreyan V. Burney as a County Court Judge in El Paso County in the Fourth Judicial District. Her appointment is occasioned by the retirement of the Honorable Larry Martin.

Burney is currently a Senior Deputy District Attorney with the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, a position she has held since 2017. Her work focuses solely on criminal law. Previously, she was a Deputy District Attorney with the 4th Judicial District (2003-2017), and a law clerk with Vaughan and DeMuro (2003). Burney earned her B.S. from the University of Denver in 1998 and her J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2001.

Burney’s appointment is effective June 1, 2020.
