Gov. Polis Urges Coloradans to Get Vaccinated and to Receive Booster

Friday, October 22, 2021

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis urged Coloradans to get the COVID-19 booster to protect themselves, their families and to help end this dangerous pandemic. The Governor received the booster today at Denver Health.

“The safe and effective vaccine and now the booster is the ticket to safety and the best way to avoid overwhelming our health care system. This is an extremely dangerous time for unvaccinated individuals, so go get vaccinated today or get your booster - it could save your life and the lives of those you love. If you’re unvaccinated, get vaccinated," said Gov. Polis. “I eagerly rolled up my sleeve to get the booster because it’s the best  thing to do to protect my family, our economy, and our way of life.”

Most vaccines require more than one dose over time to produce immunity and long-lasting protection such as the three doses of DTaP that nearly all kids receive to build up protection against diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough.

The Polis-Primavera administration continues its COVID-19 vaccination campaign with vaccine clinics scheduled to meet Coloradans in their communities.  The state encourages Coloradans to get vaccinated as soon as possible to have full protection in time for the holidays.

Last night,  CDC Director Rochelle Walensky provided full approval of booster shots of both the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine as well as a booster of the Moderna vaccine. Director Walensky’s approval follows the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) sign off on approving the FDA’s recommendation of the Johnson & Johnson shot for anyone 18 and over, as well as the Moderna booster, a half-dose of the original shot, for people 65 and older and everyone 18 and older who works around others at their job.
