Governor Polis Continues Powering the Comeback State Tour in Pueblo, Trinidad, and Colorado Springs

PUEBLO — Governor Polis continued the Powering the Comeback Tour in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Trinidad today. The Governor met with small businesses, and Coloradans throughout the day to discuss ways we can build back better than before the pandemic and to highlight our economic recovery. 

“I was thrilled to meet with small business owners in Pueblo and Colorado Springs today to hear more about ways we can help them thrive, to see first hand the bold innovative spirit of Colorado and the good-paying jobs that come with it,” said Governor Polis. “The economic and community development driven by the people of Southern Colorado is driving our Colorado comeback and pushing us forward as a state.”

This morning, Governor Polis visited the Another Life Foundation to discuss the new federal child tax credit that is saving families money. Under the Polis administration, Colorado has cut the income tax, cut property taxes, and doubled the state Earned Income Tax Credit to reward hard work as well as funding a new State Child Credit to provide additional support to Colorado families with young children. 

October is Employee Ownership Month and the Polis administration established the Employee Ownership Office and Commission to further the mission of employee ownership across the state and make employee ownership more accessible to business owners. 

Gov. Polis then visited Loyal Coffee in Colorado Springs, a barista-owned coffee shop that focuses on delivering high-quality, locally made products. The Polis administration has cut taxes for and is making significant investments to help our small businesses thrive, create jobs, and is committed to promoting Colorado’s world-class products. 

At Loyal Coffee, the Governor also discussed a new law he signed this year that will provide $10 million annually in tax credits over the next six years to fund the professional service costs of conversions to employee ownership.

Then Gov. Polis visited CSU-Pueblo’s completed 23-acre solar array project on the north side of campus.  This year, Governor Polis congratulated CSU Pueblo for becoming the first university in Colorado to reach net-zero efficiency with solar power. By switching all academic buildings to solar power they are able to reinvest the savings into the university. Partnering with universities and developing the next generation of scientists and engineers is key to achieving the Polis administration’s goal of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2040 and developing new solutions to energy efficiency. 

Governor Polis and House Majority Leader Daneya Esgar then stopped by Solar Roast Coffee in Pueblo, a small business that uses solar power to roast their coffee bean to visit with team members, discuss how the Administration in partnership with the legislature is helping small businesses and the progress on achieving 100% renewable energy by 2040. 

Gov. Polis then returned to Runyon Field Sports Complex in Pueblo which serves as a youth baseball hub for all of Southeastern Colorado. This project will help with economic development, increase tourism, underscore the importance of youth sports while showcasing Pueblo County.

To cap off the day, the Governor visited the historic Fox West Theater in Trinidad which the Polis Administration recently awarded the theatre a Community Revitalization Grant of $3,450,000. The theater is currently under renovation by the City of Trinidad with support provided in part by History Colorado and in partnership with Dana Crawford and Urban Neighborhoods, Inc. of Denver, Colorado.  The theater compliments the mission of the Corazon de Trinidad Creative District to support Colorado artists and entrepreneurs and honor Trinidad’s rich history.
