Governor Polis & Lt. Governor Visit Vaccine Clinics for Seniors in Adams, El Paso, Denver & Lafayette

DENVER - Governor Polis and Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera visited COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Adams County, El Paso County, Denver, and Lafayette today. The Polis administration is partnering with providers and local communities to ensure the COVID-19 vaccine is equitably and efficiently administered.

 Governor Polis was in Colorado Springs visiting a mass COVID vaccine clinic the state is operating in partnership with the community and UCHealth Memorial. Gov. Polis was joined by Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers and greeted excited seniors as they joined over 2,000 others in getting vaccinated. Then the Governor visited a vaccine clinic at the Broadmoor World Arena where over 6,000 people are set to receive the vaccine through the weekend.  Governor Polis joined frontline health care workers and volunteers in stamping vaccine cards. Governor Polis then headed to Lafayette where he met with educators receiving the vaccine at a Kaiser Permanente clinic. 

 “It was great to be in Colorado Springs today and we won’t let a little cold weather deter us from rapidly getting this highly effective life-saving vaccine into the arms of seniors across our state,” said Governor Polis. “I want to thank all of the frontline health care workers, volunteers, and communities working so hard in partnership with the state to get more shots into arms, quickly, efficiently, and equitably.” 

 This week marked the start of Colorado’s efforts to open the vaccine up to those aged 65 and older and making the vaccine available to educators and childcare providers through their employers. As of yesterday, 616,066 first doses and 271,104-second doses had been administered. Also as of yesterday, the state has vaccinated: 302,338 Coloradans 70 and older bringing the Polis administration 77% of the way toward our goal of vaccinating 70% of this group by the end of the month. 35,618 Coloradans between the ages of 65-69 have received the vaccine and this brings the administration 22% of the way toward the state’s goal of vaccinating 55% of this group by the first week of March.

Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera visited state-supported vaccine clinics for educators in Adams County and Denver where she was joined by local officials from Adams County and Denver Public Schools. 

“It was great to be in Adams County and Denver with school personnel and partners to see how we are getting this life-saving and crisis-ending vaccine into the arms of our educators,” said Lt. Governor Primavera. “In-person learning is critical for the health, safety, and well-being of students and the whole family.  By efficiently getting shots in the arms of educators, we can build back stronger more quickly and make sure our communities have the resources they need to stay healthy as we safely get our students back to in-person learning.”
