DENVER - Today, Governor Polis signed bills in Grand Junction to cut government red tape, build a Colorado For All, and strengthen our workforce.
At The Art Center of Western Colorado in Grand Junction, Governor Polis signed SB24-016 - Tax Credits for Contributions via Intermediaries, sponsored by Senators Rachel Zenzinger and Jim Smallwood, and Representatives Marc Snyder and Rick Taggart to streamline our tax system to remove unnecessary barriers that keep Coloradans from donating to non-profit organizations.
“Nonprofits do essential work in Colorado and this legislation will help streamline our tax code and support donations to help churches, childcare, and homelessness nonprofits among other good causes. This bill will give Coloradans more options to donate and receive tax credits to save money on taxes,” said Governor Polis.
Governor Polis then toured Colorado Mesa University, a Geothermal Energy Grant Program recipient. Colorado Mesa University has a nationally-recognized geothermal heating and cooling network which has been operating for nearly two decades, and with state funding, will expand to support the entire campus.
Governor Polis then visited the Mesa County Workforce Center and signed bills that continue the Governor’s work to build a Colorado For All and strengthen our workforce.
HB24-1342 - Test Accommodations for Persons with Disabilities, sponsored by Representatives Matt Soper and Jennifer Bacon, and Senators Dylan Roberts and Janice Rich.
- “This bipartisan bill helps ensure that exams to get a professional license that can open doors to higher-paid careers are accessible to all Coloradans. This will help connect qualified Coloradans with good jobs, strengthen our economy, and continue building a Colorado For All,” said Governor Polis.
HB24-1365 - Opportunity Now Grants & Tax Credit, sponsored by Representatives Meghan Lukens and Matt Soper, and Senators Jeff Bridges and Perry Will.
- “We are connecting Coloradans with the training needed to fill good-paying, in-demand jobs. Colorado’s strong economy needs a workforce that is trained for the jobs and industries of the future and I am thrilled to see that now Colorado will have even more success in workforce innovation,” said Governor Polis.
This afternoon Governor Polis will visit the Eagle County government complex, another Geothermal Energy Grant recipient. This grant will help this campus, which houses Eagle County Human Services, Public Health, and Emergency Management Departments, transition from a gas boiler system to a geothermal network, helping meet county climate goals and potentially serve the greater Eagle County community over time.
While in Eagle County, Governor Polis will visit Sundae Ice Cream shop in Edward’s and sign John Harcourt’s cowboy hat. Since 1950 every Colorado Governor has signed John’s hat, and today Governor Polis will add his signature to this 74-year tradition.
