METRO DENVER/AURORA - Today, Governor Polis made community visits across Commerce City, Aurora and Denver.

The Governor visited the South Platte Crossing apartments in Commerce City. These apartments included 60 units and are located near bus and transit, providing easy transportation access for tenants. The units are available to households earning up to 30% of Area Median Income (AMI) to those earning up to 80% AMI. The project received funding from the Department of Local Affairs and the Office of Economic Development and International Trade.

“We want to create more housing opportunities for Coloradans of every budget, and Thursday. We apartments are a great example of how that can be done. I had the opportunity to attend the groundbreaking here last year and the state was proud to help provide funding to bring this project to life. This is a great example of what communities can do to increase housing and make our communities stronger,” said Governor Jared Polis.

The Governor also visited the La Plaza Colorado in Aurora, which is home to a number of local restaurants and small businesses. This community space drives economic growth and celebrates cultural heritage. La Plaza will have a new opening in February of the Largest Hispanic Food Hall in the United States. La Plaza will have over 34 Authentic Food Hall kitchens to serve the neighboring Anschutz Medical Campus and all of Aurora and the Denver Metro area.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and it was great to visit the restaurants and shops at La Plaza Colorado that serve so many people in the Aurora community. Coloradans and their families come here for good food, good shopping, and good community,” said Governor Jared Polis.

Later today, the Governor will join the City of Aurora’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Opening Ceremony to celebrate the coming holiday and the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Martin Luther King Jr. was someone who fought for freedom and believed that everyone should have the opportunity for a good life, and we continue fighting for his vision today. Here in Colorado we want to protect our freedoms and economic opportunities, and continue working to make our state a Colorado for all,” said Governor Jared Polis.

The Governor will also provide remarks at the Citizens of the West dinner at the National Western Stock Show, where he will help award the 2025 Citizen of the West award.

“The National Western Stock Show draws people from around the country and celebrates our western and agricultural heritage here in Colorado. The Citizen of the West dinner is an opportunity to celebrate that heritage, and the incredible people who are working to ensure it’s part of our future.,” said Governor Jared Polis.
