DENVER/THORNTON - Today Governor Polis visited the Denver Language School Gilpin Campus in Denver and the Global Village Academy North in Thornton, which he mentioned in his State of the State address, to celebrate educational success in Colorado.
“Supporting Colorado students and educators is my priority, which is why I’m proposing another increase to per pupil funding and funding students where they actually are to ensure that we never return to the budget stabilization factor. I was proud to be joined by Global Village Academy for my State of the State address so I could highlight their great work, and the Denver Language School is another great example we can learn from of supporting students and preparing them for the future,” said Governor Jared Polis.
The Global Village Academy North in Thornton is a language immersion school that serves over 50% low income students, and over 80% of 8th graders are at grade level or above in reading, and over 90% in writing. The Denver Language School’s (DLS) Gilpin Campus serves students between 5th - 8th grade, and currently offers Mandarin or Spanish immersion options. This program model means that 50% of the instructional day is taught in English and the other 50% in the program language. Before continuing from DLS, 8th grade students are eligible to take the AP Exam.
As Chair of the National Governors Association, Governor Polis launched the Let’s Get Ready: Educating All Americans for Success initiative. This initiative is focused on revolutionizing education in America and how states can measure outcomes to better prepare students for jobs of the future, leading to a better-prepared workforce and stronger economy.
