New York City – Governor Kathy Hochul welcomed National Governors Association (NGA) Chair Colorado Governor Jared Polis for the latest in a series of bipartisan events in support of his NGA Chair’s Initiative, Let’s Get Ready: Educating All Americans for Success. Education Secretary Linda McMahon joined the discussion; other participants included American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten; Geoffrey Canada - President and co-founder, Harlem Children’s Zone; and other education experts. The New York City event featured discussions with bipartisan education and workforce development experts. Earlier in the day, Governors highlighted the impact of Governor Hochul’s Back to Basics reading plan in a visit to The Magnet School of Inquiry and Expression (P.S. 189M).

“This is a pivotal moment for education,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis. “Through Let’s Get Ready!, Governors are highlighting education models that work. Innovative schools and programs are succeeding – raising test scores and helping students of all backgrounds find pathways to career success. By adapting proven models, we can identify innovative ways to redesign and strengthen the nation’s education system to ensure that each student, and the American economy, succeeds. Governors and states are the largest funders of education, and we are in a strong position to demand better results and outcomes for kids.”

“Across the nation, Governors are working together to protect education and help the next generation of leaders thrive,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. “From getting Back to Basics with reading fundamentals to supporting our educators, New York will always stand up for our kids and ensure that every student has access to the high-quality education that they deserve.”
