Say Boo to the Flu: Governor Polis Encourages All Coloradans to Get Vaccinated

Thursday, October 31, 2024

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis visited Rose on Colfax Early Learning Center in Denver to receive his latest COVID-19 and flu vaccines from the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment’s Mobile Public Health Clinic, and encouraged all Coloradans to protect themselves and communities through vaccination. The Governor was joined by Dr. Rachel Herlihy, the State Epidemiologist.

“It’s that time of the year, when our kids are back to school, the air gets a little colder, and people start to feel a little under the weather. To avoid getting and reduce the severity of the seasonal flu and COVID-19, I encourage my fellow Colordans to choose to get vaccinated. Help yourself and your family members stay healthy through the holidays and beyond,” said Governor Polis.

Coloradans can use CDPHE’s Find a Vaccine Provider webpage to find low and no-cost vaccines across the state at local public health clinics, primary care offices, and many pharmacies.

“Getting your annual flu and updated COVID-19 vaccine remains one of the best ways to protect yourself from serious illness and complications from flu and COVID-19,” said state epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy. “As we start spending more time indoors and gathering with loved ones over the holidays this fall and winter, it’s crucial to make sure our protection against these viruses is the best it can be.”

CDPHE administers the federal Vaccines for Children program, which provides free vaccines to eligible children from birth to 18 years of age. Through this program, CDPHE also makes available a limited supply of vaccines to uninsured and underinsured adults.

Governor Polis and CDPHE are working to bridge gaps in access to public health services in Colorado with the Mobile Public Health Clinic Program. The mobile clinics provide low- and no-cost services to Coloradans of all ages. These include routine vaccines required for school and child care, as well as other recommended vaccines like flu and COVID-19.
