We don't have it all, nor do we want it that way, because what Rangely offers is unique and world class. We are located in an area of geologic and ecological beauty, which offers an astounding array of recreational opportunities, and the peace and simplicity of making one's home in a remote area. It is a place facing change as the sustainability of the finite natural resource base diminishes and progress alters world priorities.
It is a town that has a strong set of public values that are reflected in its rich history, strong infrastructure base, family values, institutions, and low crime rate. It is a community ready to face change by employing a positive attitude toward growth and natural resource development as long as the qualities of rural life and landscape are not sacrificed. It is a home where visitors can become neighbors and children have the option of a complete education from Early Childhood through Associates Degrees.
Just minutes from our back door BLM has helped us create a Trail Master Plan, including the only Rock Crawl Park on public land in the state of Colorado for off-roading (ATVs, 4x4s, dirt biking), biking, hiking, and much more.
Our history is filled with amazing stores form oil & gas to the Fremont, Shoshone, and Ute Indians that lived in the area. A drive on the Dinosaur Diamond Scenic Byway, or to sites within a few miles of the Town limits, reveal incredible rock art from the antiquities, and archeology students regularly travel from Front Range universities to excavate nearby sites. Dinosaur National Monument is only 30 miles away, and offers spectacular scenery, camping, river sports and an incredible museum which encloses the rock face from which the majority of the full skeleton dinosaur exhibits worldwide were excavated from.
At the end of the day, if they're not camping, residents and visitors alike relax with friends, a movie, online gaming, finishing up homework, or surfing the net—all backed through our World Class Fiber-Optic telecommunications network which surpasses that in LA and NY. Thanks to Cimarron Telecommunications and Rio Blanco Broadband for all their efforts to make this possible.
