DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis today ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 to honor Associate Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, and as proclaimed by President Donald J. DENVER — Gov. Jared Polis today announced the appointment of Jessica L. Curtis as a District Court Judge in the 4th Judicial District to fill a position created by Senate Bill 19-043. He also announced the appointment of Chelsea W. Rengel as a Jackson County Court Judge in the 8th Judicial District to fill a vacancy occasioned by the retirement of the Honorable Cindy L. Wilson.

DENVER - Today, the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI), part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), announced that for the first time ever, Colorado health insurance companies that sell individual plans (for people who do not get their health insurance from an employer or government program) expect to reduce premiums by an average of 18.2 percent (-18.2%) over their 2019 premiums, provided the reinsurance program is approved by the federal government. These are the health insurance plans available on the Connect for Health Insurance Exchange, the state’s health exchange made possible by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Polis released the following statement regarding the Bureau of Land Management’s decision to move their headquarters to Colorado. “We are thrilled to welcome the Bureau of Land Management and their employees to the great state of Colorado. As I stated to Secretary Bernhardt many times, Grand Junction is the perfect location for the BLM because of community support, location closer to the land BLM manages, and the positive impact it will have on our western Colorado economy,” said Governor Jared Polis. “Hard to think of a better place to house the department responsible for overseeing our beloved public lands.”

DENVER - Gov. Jared Polis released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement that he would issue an executive order related to citizenship information. “Today the President recognized that there were no legal grounds to add the citizenship question to the census. In Colorado, we are working to make sure we have the most accurate count possible. An accurate census is a critical tool for ensuring Colorado receives fair representation in Congress and resources that support our schools, infrastructure, and other critical services. Questions designed to deter participation should not be allowed.”

DENVER - Following reports of President Trump’s plan to launch a series of raids across the country, including Denver, Gov. Jared Polis issued the following statement: “If true, these reports are of great concern and another failure of leadership by the Trump administration. Instead of working with Congress to find a real, comprehensive solution to our broken immigration system, the President is unfortunately focused on creating uncertainty and fear. These actions make our communities less safe and increase distrust of law enforcement. Colorado celebrates our immigrant communities, and we will not allow the public safety of Coloradans to be held hostage by the Trump administration.”

DENVER - Gov. Jared Polis and Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera invited the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) to the Colorado State Capital to celebrate the team’s historic World Cup victory. Two of the team members are from Colorado, Midfielder Lindsey Horan and forward Mallory Pugh. Gov. Polis participated in a press conference this morning to help ensure Denver is selected among final host cities for the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2026.

Gov. Polis Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

DENVER - Today the Polis administration marked six months in office and the administration’s record of bold, bipartisan accomplishments. Since being sworn-in on January 8, Governor Jared Polis has worked with legislators on both sides of the aisle and members of the administration to lower the rising cost of living and expand opportunity for all by providing free full-day kindergarten, tackling the rising cost of health care, and putting Colorado on a path to a 100 percent renewable energy future by 2040.
