DENVER - Today, the Governor appointed Sarah E. Zane to the 4th Judicial District Court, and Laura C. Makar to the 9th Judicial District Court. Ms. Zane fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Monica J. Gomez. The vacancy is effective January 1, 2025. Ms. Makar fills the vacancy created by the Honorable Christopher Seldin not standing for retention. The vacancy is effective October 5, 2024.

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, September 9, 2024, in remembrance of dedicated Colorado Department of Transportation workers Trent Umberger and Nathan Jones who were killed in a tragic crash along Highway 6 in Mesa County on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

AURORA - Today, Governor Polis signed HB24B-1003, Business Personal Property Tax Exemptions, sponsored by Representatives Matt Soper and Junie Joseph and Senators Kevin Priola and Mark Baisley. The bill will help Colorado greenhouses and other agricultural businesses save more, and make certain property tax exemptions permanent, including an exemption for equipment used in greenhouses to grow food.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Lt. Governor Primavera announced that Mary Zanotti, Executive Director of Colorado Youth for a Change, an AmeriCorps program managed by Serve Colorado within the Office of Lt. Governor Primavera, was awarded the 2024 Outstanding Service Program Staff Member Award at a reception hosted by America’s Service Commissions (ASC) on September 4 in Washington, D.C. The awards program is held each year to recognize the accomplishments of state and territorial service commission staff, commissioners, service programs, and champions of national service throughout the United States and its territories.

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis and the Department of Early Childhood announced historic savings for Colorado families as a result of the successful Colorado’s Universal Preschool Program (UPK). Year one of the Colorado Universal Preschool Program has saved families across Colorado $239 million on high-quality early education for children in their year before kindergarten. Early childhood education is key to ensuring future Coloradans can achieve high-paying careers, social mobility, and give back to the community.

MESA COUNTY - Governor Jared Polis released the following statement on the loss of two Colorado Department of Transportation employees in an accident that killed three individuals.

DENVER - Today, after receiving official notice that risky Initiatives 50 and 108 were removed from the ballot, Governor Polis signed HB24B-1001 - Property Tax, sponsored by Representatives Julie McCluskie and Rose Pugliese and Senators Chris Hansen and Barbara Kirmeyer, into law.

STATEWIDE - Today, Governor Polis’s Colorado Energy Office (CEO) announced an additional round of rebates for the successful electric bicycle (e-bike) rebate program. Applications for the program will open Monday, September 16 at 10:00 AM MT and close Monday, September 23 at 4:00 PM MT. In addition to e-bike rebates, the state E-Bike Tax Credit discount will be available for all Coloradans purchasing a qualified e-bike at an authorized retailer through 2032.
